O Devi, auspicious of all that is auspicious — you who fulfil every purpose, we bow to you. May every festival this year bring your grace into our homes.

The Hindu calendar is not just a list of holidays. It is a rhythm — a living, breathing schedule that syncs your household with the cosmos, season by season, deity by deity. Whether you are a working professional in a Bengaluru apartment or a family running a traditional grahapravesh, keeping the right samagri ready before each festival is the difference between a rushed puja and a truly felt one.

This guide is the only Hindu festival calendar 2026 that doubles as a samagri shopping checklist. Bookmark it, share it with your family WhatsApp group, and use it all year. 1. Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 — September 14

Ganesh Chaturthi — Vinayaka Chavithi in South India — is the 10-day festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. In 2026 it falls on Sunday, September 14, making it a full weekend celebration for Bengaluru families. The festival begins on Chaturthi tithi (4th day of the waxing moon in Bhadra month) and concludes with Anant Chaturdashi, when idols are traditionally immersed.

Ganesh Chaturthi puja requires careful preparation across multiple categories: the idol itself, the puja setup, the offerings (naivedyam), and the daily rituals over 1.5, 5, 7, or 10 days depending on your tradition. All items below are available as Govt. Certified, authentic-quality puja samagri at Divine Hindu Store.

Complete Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Samagri List

  1. Ganesha idol — eco-friendly clay (shaadu mati) preferred; avoid Plaster of Paris for environment-safe immersion. Look for a seated posture with trunk curling to the left (sukha trunk) for home puja.
  2. Wooden chowki (platform) — minimum 12×12 inches; draped in red or yellow cloth
  3. Durva grass (doob grass) — Ganesha's most beloved offering; tied in bunches of 3 or 5 blades
  4. 21 Patri (sacred leaves) — including bilva, tulsi, shami, arka, banana leaf, etc. (regional list may vary)
  5. Modak — Ganesha's favourite sweet; either ukadiche modak (steamed) or store-bought; 21 modaks is the traditional number
  6. Hibiscus flowers (Jaswand) — red hibiscus is auspicious for Ganesha; marigold garlands for decoration
  7. Betel leaves and betel nut (Tambula) — offered as part of standard Shodashopachara puja
  8. Coconut (Narial) — one whole coconut for the kalash; additional for breaking during visarjan
  9. Kalash (brass or copper) — filled with water, topped with coconut and mango leaves; represents the deity's presence
  10. Panchamrit ingredients — cow milk, curd (dahi), honey, ghee, sugar — for abhishek (bathing the idol)
  11. Kumkum, turmeric (haldi), chandan (sandalwood paste) — for applying tilak; Ganesha is traditionally offered red kumkum
  12. Akshat (unbroken rice) — dyed with kumkum; used throughout the puja as a symbolic offering
  13. Agarbatti and dhoop — use natural, chemical-free agarbatti; camphor (kapur) for aarti
  14. Deepam (oil lamp or ghee diya) — brass or clay lamp; ideally a 5-wick diya for Chaturthi
  15. Panchamrit puja thali — a decorated plate to arrange all offering items

Planning ahead is key. At Divine Hindu Store in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, you can find Govt. Certified clay Ganesha idols, natural agarbatti, brass kalash sets, and all panchamrit ingredients as part of a ready-to-buy combo. 2. Varalakshmi Vratham 2026 — August 28 (Friday)

Varalakshmi Vratham is observed predominantly in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu on the Friday immediately before Shravana Purnima (the full moon of the Shravana month). In 2026, this auspicious day falls on Friday, August 28 — a date widely expected by Karnataka panchangams and confirmed by the Shravana-month calculation. The word Vara means boon, and Lakshmi Devi is worshipped to bestow prosperity, good health, and fulfilment of wishes.

This is one of the most cherished women's vrat festivals in Karnataka, and Bengaluru homes take special pride in setting up an elaborate Varalakshmi puja with a decorated kalasha representing Goddess Lakshmi herself.

Complete Varalakshmi Vratham 2026 Puja Samagri List

  1. Lakshmi idol or framed photo — brass Lakshmi idol is ideal; alternatively a printed Varalakshmi Devi photo
  2. Kalasha (brass or silver) — the central element of Varalakshmi puja; represents Goddess Lakshmi
  3. Coconut (Narial) — placed atop the kalasha; symbolises the Devi's head
  4. Mango leaves (Mamidi Aaku) — 5 fresh mango leaves tucked into the kalasha neck
  5. Thoram (sacred thread / doraka) — a yellow or red thread tied around the kalasha and offered to married women
  6. Turmeric (haldi) and Kumkum — applied to the kalasha and used throughout the 16-step puja
  7. Fresh flowers — lotus (Devi's favourite), rose, jasmine; avoid dry or wilted flowers
  8. Naivedyam (food offering) — traditionally includes sundal (boiled legumes), vada, rice with ghee, coconut-based sweets
  9. Betel leaves and betel nut — offered in pairs; part of Shodashopachara ritual
  10. Fruits (Phalam) — banana, pomegranate, coconut, mango in season
  11. Sweets — home-made Mysore Pak, Holige, or store-bought traditional Karnataka sweets
  12. Akshat (kumkum-dyed rice)

Varalakshmi Vratham samagri is available at Divine Hindu Store throughout August. Our brass kalash sets (with Govt. Certification) and authentic Lakshmi idols are among our most popular items during this season. For idol selection guidance, see our blog on brass vs panchaloha idols for home worship.

3. Diwali / Lakshmi Puja 2026 — November 8 (Sunday)

Why is Diwali 2026 so late? Because of Adhik Maas (extra lunar month, May 17 – June 15, 2026). This intercalary month effectively pushes the Hindu calendar ~20 days forward, shifting Diwali from its typical late-October date to Sunday, November 8, 2026. This is the correct date — confirm at drikpanchang.com.

Diwali is the most celebrated festival in India, and its centrepiece is Lakshmi Puja — the worship of Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, wealth, and new beginnings. It falls on Amavasya (new moon night) of the Kartik month. In 2026, due to the Adhik Maas shift, this Amavasya aligns with Sunday, November 8.

Preparation should begin at least two weeks in advance. Divine Hindu Store starts stocking Diwali samagri from early October — our brass diyas, Lakshmi-Ganesh combo idols, and marigold garland arrangements are among the most sought-after items. Trusted by 10 Lakh+ devotees, we source all items with full Govt. Certification traceability.

Complete Diwali / Lakshmi Puja 2026 Samagri List

  1. Lakshmi-Ganesh idol (brass or panchaloha) — the central murti for Lakshmi Puja; silver-plated brass is traditional for Diwali
  2. Brass / clay diyas — minimum 13 or 21 diyas for the puja room; hundreds more for the home entrance, balcony, and rangoli
  3. Oil or ghee for diyas — pure cow ghee preferred for the main puja diya; sesame oil for decorative diyas
  4. Lotus flowers — Lakshmi Devi's primary flower; marigold garlands for decoration
  5. Panchamrit — milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar for abhishek of the idol
  6. Kumkum, chandan, haldi — for tilak and decoration of the idol and kalash
  7. Kalash with mango leaves and coconut
  8. Sweets (Naivedyam) — kheer, besan laddoo, Mysore Pak; 5 or 11 varieties traditionally
  9. Coins (gold / silver or symbolic) — placed before the idol; Akshaya Tritiya coins repurposed here
  10. Rangoli powder / colours — for the puja room floor design and entrance
  11. Camphor (Kapur) and agarbatti — for aarti; use natural camphor only
  12. Akshat and betel leaves

5. Makar Sankranti / Pongal 2026 — January 14–15

Makar Sankranti marks the sun's transition (Sankranti) into Capricorn (Makara), ending the inauspicious period of Dakshinayana and beginning Uttarayana — the sun's northward journey. In Karnataka it is celebrated as Sankranti or Ellu Birodella; in Tamil Nadu as Pongal; in Gujarat as Uttarayan (kite day). In 2026, Makar Sankranti falls on Wednesday, January 14, with the main Pongal celebration on January 15.

This is one of the few Hindu festivals fixed to the solar calendar (not lunar), so its date rarely varies. It is the first major puja of the new year — a beautiful way to begin your festival calendar. For Karnataka, the puja involves the exchange of Ellu-Bella (sesame and jaggery mix) symbolising the sweetness of life.

Complete Sankranti / Pongal 2026 Puja Samagri List

  1. Til (white sesame seeds) — raw and toasted; used in til laddoo, til chikki, and ritual offerings
  2. Jaggery (Bella / Gud) — unrefined sugarcane jaggery for Ellu-Bella and Pongal
  3. New clay pot — for cooking Pongal; the pot boiling over symbolises abundance
  4. Rice (raw, short-grain) — for making Sakkarai Pongal or Ven Pongal
  5. Turmeric plant with roots — tied to the new pot; auspicious symbol
  6. Sugarcane stalk — offered as prasad and used for Pongal altar decoration
  7. Kumkum and chandan — for Surya puja (sun worship) on Sankranti morning
  8. Marigold flowers — for Surya puja and altar decoration
  9. Cow dung (for Govardhan / Mattu Pongal) — if celebrating with cattle puja

Sankranti is also a time for new beginnings and home puja room refreshes. If you are setting up or re-energising your home mandir in January 2026, read our complete guide on setting up a home mandir in a Bengaluru apartment.

🔹 Year-Round Mandir Essentials — Always Keep These Stocked

Regardless of which festival is next, these seven items should never run out in your home mandir. Think of them as the foundation layer of every puja, every day.

  1. Agarbatti (incense sticks) — natural, chemical-free; sandalwood, rose, or camphor variety. One pack per week for a daily puja household.
  2. Kapur (camphor tablets) — for aarti; camphor burns completely, leaving no residue — the mark of purity in Vedic ritual.
  3. Ghee diya (brass oil lamp) — a permanent, well-made brass diya is a one-time investment. Pure cow ghee is preferred; sesame oil is an acceptable alternative.
  4. Kumkum (vermilion) — applied as tilak on the deity and devotee; offered to Devi deities.
  5. Chandan (sandalwood paste or powder) — cooling, sattvic; applied to Shiva, Vishnu, and all male deities.
  6. Panchamrit ingredients — keep a small stock of cow milk, curd, honey, ghee, and mishri (raw sugar) available; used for abhishek on all major festival days.
  7. Akshat (unbroken rice grains) — dyed with kumkum; used in virtually every puja as a symbolic offering and blessing medium.

Why Is Everything 20 Days Later in 2026? — The Adhik Maas Explained

If you have searched "when is Diwali 2026" and found different answers online — many sites are still showing the un-shifted date. Here is the definitive explanation.

The Hindu lunar calendar runs approximately 11 days shorter than the solar (Gregorian) calendar each year. To keep lunar months aligned with seasons, Hindu reckoning inserts an extra lunar month (Adhik Maas, also called Purushottam Maas or Mal Maas) roughly every 2.5–3 years. In 2026, this extra month falls between May 17 and June 15.

Because an entire month is inserted in the middle of the year, every subsequent lunar festival shifts approximately 20–29 days later than the previous year's dates. This is why:

  • Raksha Bandhan, typically in early August, is pushed to late August / early September 2026 (exact date expected around Aug 28–Sep 4; verify on Drik Panchang).
  • Navratri, typically early October, begins October 11 in 2026.
  • Diwali, typically mid-to-late October, falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

For gift shopping, bulk samagri orders, and festival catering, plan your preparation 3–4 weeks earlier than the festival date — Bengaluru's demand for authentic puja items peaks sharply in the last week before any major festival. At Divine Hindu Store in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, our festival collection goes live 6–8 weeks before each major date. Sign up for our reminder service above to get a 7-day alert.

For more on gifting around festival occasions (especially Raksha Bandhan and Diwali), read our guide to Rudraksha gifting for festivals — a Govt. Certified Rudraksha bracelet is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a sibling, parent, or spouse on a sacred day.
